Tetilla Peak

Recently heard there’s s’posed to be an airplane wreck on Colorado Peak, near Cerro Rito that I climbed last week. These are hills, really, running about 500 ft high +/-. Didn’t spot Colorado Peak (that I was sure of) on the way thru - other stuff in the way - so continued on, exploring, and saw this guy sticking up all by its’ lonesome. Figured Cochiti Lake should be on the other side, so climbed up to take a look…………

I’m getting in some kinda shape for an old fart - durned near ran up this thing, about 480 ft high, with the summit at 7225 ft. Took just 30 minutes, truck to top. Toward the top it got a little steep and rough……….

At the top, it was Real Steep & Rugged. S’Okay - didn’t last long…………

1st pic was from the truck, looking to the mountain. Now, from the mountain summit to the truck. See it…….waaaaay down yonder ??
Just a hair below dead center…………

Now I know senility is setting (has sat) in. I carried the heavy tripod all the way up there and forgot to take a pic of myself on the summit. :-[ Here’s the next best thing - the U.S. Geological Survey Bench Mark for the summit of Tetilla Peak. (pronounce it “Tay-TEE-yah)………….

And yup, to the west you can see Cochiti Lake from up here. Tent Rocks is off to the left, out of the picture…………

To the east, La Bajada and I-25 in the distance………….

The 1st pic was of the north face of the mountain. This one is the east face. I would have thought the vegetation would be thinner on the north side. Nope, guess not…………..

So, there you have the “mystery mountain.” Didn’t even know the name of it till I saw the benchmark on top.
